Interested in finding pictures for the wallpaper on your desktop, to print out and hang up on your walls, to use for a school related project, or just want to browse around? If you are, go to the reliable Gallery, which has over 13,000 pictures. The categories to choose from include “Cast & Crew,” “On Set & Production,” “Characters,” “Members gallery,” “Fan Art,” various merchandise and publications, “Events,” “Screen Captures,” “Admins’ Choice,” maps created by various members, and others. Let’s take a look at some of the areas, starting with a few of my personal favorites:

The “Cast & Crew” section itself has 2,818 pictures. The sub-sections include Bathtub Race Day, which was a fundraiser for charity, Karl & Viggo, in case you fancy either or both of them, By Viggo, if you want a sampling of some of his good photography skills, Non-LotR Related, if you want to see your favorite LotR stars in a different environment, Hobbits!, if you’re interested in seeing the actors who played the adorable hobbits, and Sword Practice, which has pictures of the actors practicing alone and with one another.

On Set & Production is a great place to go if you like seeing some behind the scenes pictures, and it has a total of 718 pictures. You can pick from behind the scenes from the Fellowship of the Ring, the Two Towers, and the Return of the King, plus Miscellaneous, Concept Art, Costumes, Production & SFX, Props, Sets & Location Sites, and last but not least, Weaponry. The Character section, which has about 2,503 total pictures, is divided into its own sections. They are Aragorn, Arwen, Bilbo, Boromir, Denethor, Elrond, Eomer, Eowyn, Faramir, Frodo, Galadriel, Gandalf, Gimli, Gollum/Sméagol, Grima Wormtongue, Group, Haldir, Legolas, Merry, Other, Pippin, Sam, Saruman, and Theoden. These pictures are taken from the movies and are a great help for Lord of the Rings-inspired projects.

For those interested in admiring art by your fellow members and some invited artists visit the Fan Art area. The invited artists sections are Anastasia I-Morn-Gwathren, Chmiel, Darmage, Deana Kay, Ebe Kastein, Eissmann, Gregory, Gubina, Gwillion, Hanscom, Henninger, Janin, Jenny Dolfen, Kim Kincaid, Lorraine, Brevig, Maija Pietikainen, Miss Daisy, Nellas of Doriath, Per Sjogren, Price, Sabra R. Hart, Sherry, Sister Sarie, and Soraco. Since there are over 100 sections of the subsection “Members’ Art,” I won’t attempt to write them all here, to prevent from boring you. If you do want to see the pictures and who the many people are who have submitted, just go to Gallery, click on Fan Art, then Members’ Art, and go to any of the many choices you have.

Interested in seeing fellow members? Then you just need to check out the Members Gallery. The actual sections of people themselves are separated into Members A-I, Members J-O, Members P-Z, and CoE Staff. Other sections include Elcon, Landscapes of Middle-Earth, Member’s Surroundings, Pets, and RPG Characters. If you’re interested in seeing various places photographed by fellow LotR fans, the Surroundings is the best place to go. The Pets section is great if you enjoy admiring animals, anything from the normal cat, dog (sometimes both), bird, or hamster to rats, goats, horses and sheep.

Some of the publication-related sections include Covers, Games, Illustrations, Merchandise, and Posters & Ads. The Covers are Book Covers and Magazine Covers. The book covers include The Hobbit and various languages of The Lord of the Rings. There are many different magazine covers, including “Entertainment,” “Empire,” and “Outre,” just to name a few. The Games include FotR Playingcards-Deck 1, FotR Playingcards- Deck 2, Middle-Earth Online, RotK Cards, and The Battle for Middle Earth-RTS. The sections include Alexander; Allen; Asplund; Bakshi; Bass; Baynes; Blanche; Cavini; Curless; Edelfeldt; Garland; Gely; Govar; Green; Gregory; Hague; Hildebrandt; Hoover; Howe; Kaluta; Kirk; Kortich; Lee (not to be confused with the next one); Lee, Spencer; MacBride; Michelucci; Miller; Mockett; Montanni; Nasmith; O’Dea; Phenix; Postma; Rivoche; Sketches; Sweet; Tolkien; Wyatt, David; and Wyatt, Joan. Want to know what you don’t have of LotR merchandise? If so, then go to the Merchandise section. There are great pictures of the various items you can buy. If you’re one of those types of people who enjoy looking at posters or even one who likes to look at anything LotR, you’d probably like to head to the Posters & Ads section of the Gallery. They are separated into FotR, TTT, and RotK, with 63, 85, and 89 pictures, respectively.

The Events section is great for pictures for places like premiers, award ceremonies, and conventions. With a total of 683 pictures, it is separated into FotR, TTT, RotK related events. Screen Captures will lure you into its trap if you are interested in pictures from the movies, trailers, previews, and TV. Each subsection (FotR-Movie Captures, TTT-Movie Captures, RotK-Movie Captures, Trailers & Previews, and TV Captures) has its own subsections, which I will not get into here.

The admins chose certain pictures and put them into a section called Admins’ Choice. The description next to it currently reads, “The book club starts reading The Silmarillion in October. What about a teaser, huh?” Another section is Contests. The only subsection in this area is Weaponry Drawing, but the artwork is fabulous.
Another great section is the Maps. Some are hand drawn while others are computer generated. Some are colored while others, which are still nice, are in black and white or a different single color. If you want a preview of some pictures from the Return of the King Extended Edition DVD, then go to RotK-EE DVD. There are some interesting pictures there that many people will find fun to look at. The final section to look at is Miscellaneous. Its subsections are Art & Sculpture, Costumes, Landscapes, and LotR Props Exhibits. The Art & Sculpture subsection has some very beautiful pictures. The pictures in Landscapes have the picturesque landscapes admired from the movie.

This concludes my summary of the wonderful gallery of the Council of Elrond. I hope I have been informative for all of you. And remember to feel free to post comments and to submit your own pictures! Plus if you submit your own pictures, you’ll get an extra treat. Well, that is if you consider user points treats!
