“Mount Doom” may be moving
Mount Ngauruhoe, in New Zealand featured in the LotR movies as Mount Doom. However, the mountain range is sacred to the iwi and local Maori are “set to put their foot down” and refuse permission for filming to take place. Peter Jackson may have to move filming to Mount Taranaki and the Southern Alps.
To date only two film locations have been confirmed, Stone Street studios in Wellington, and Hobbiton in the town of Matamata. An application has however been made to film at the Aratiatia Rapids and these may be used as the location for the Forest River. You can read the full story here.

I don’t really care what locations they use for what, just as long as they make the movie! 🙂
Hang on… why would Mount Doom be in The Hobbit?
I don’t see anywhere where it says that they will be including Mount Doom in the movie, it just says that the Maori refuse to have any filming done on that mountain range which I suppose could have been used to film other parts like the goblin caves.
Of maybe they wanted to use it as the Lonely Mountain. But shouldn’t there be water close by?
Why would they bother trying to use it if they aren’t planning on using it as Mt. Doom? Wouldn’t you want a mountain that looks different to be a different mountain if you could? It’s not like there’s a shortage of mountains to pick from, I’d imagine… I have a bad feeling about this…
