In his twenties, Edward was a assassin, and had recieved the training, not at the Guild of Assassins (where Grace works at now) but in a different city. He knew that he was not suited to assassination missions and the weilding of weapons, for he had a kind heart and a gentle personality, he soon went onto paper works within the guild.
He married Eve`s mother when Eve was 2 years old, and is, technically, Eve`s step father. Yet Eve only found out about Edward being her step father when she was 7 years old. Later on that night, he was murdered by a man who he had been friends with.
