Talkan (nelenata)
Gender: 2
Race: Gondorian
Height: 5"10
Age: 20, roughly
Family: Father, mother and sister, all living in Gondor
Animals: None.
Weapons: Bow and short dagger, but rarely uses either except for hunting.
Personality: Talkan is a sociable type who believes in living life to the full - every day might be your last! Secretly he is a bit of a dreamer and philosopher, the result of many childhood evenings with his grandfather, a scribe and historian, who taught Talkan to question everything he sees and hears, never accepting anything blindly. Talkan's intelligence is sharp and keen; he has a lively, enquiring mind, and despite his unwillingness to place his trust freely in people, he remains cheerful and optimistic by nature. Talkan does not take himself very seriously, but he rarely shares his deeper thoughts unless prodded; his family never appreciated his constant questioning of deeply-held beliefs. He is not easily disgusted or dissuaded, and tends to follow his own moral code rather than that prescribed by law -- he has a low opinion of prescribed rules and regulations, and those who blindly follow them.
Talkan is quite a dynamic individual, strongly believing that nothing ever happens if nothing is what you do. His greatest scorn is reserved for the apathetic and the narrow-minded, an attitude which has made him more enemies than friends over the years. He is enthusiastic and energetic, and can become impatient when others do not grasp his line of thought quickly enough. Talkan is not the most tactful individual, and can be rash and impulsive -- but his good humour generally stands him in good stead, and at heart he is a gentle, generous individual.
Appearance: Talkan is not particularly tall -- he is lean and fit, but not overly muscular. His grandfather is from Dale, and he has inherited choppy light brown hair cropped to chin length, and bright blue eyes. His skin is tanned and weatherbeaten from working outside, and his hands are large and strong. Talkan is more than capable of strangling someone with his bare hands. His fingernails are usually filthy, and he has a boyish, lopsided grin that makes his eyes twinkle.
History:
Talkan’s father is a stonemason who was born in Rohan, but moved to Gondor and married a Gondorian woman. Talkan learnt his father’s trade, but always retained a sharp interest in questions and riddles. He was fifteen at the end of the War, and learnt his craft well in the rebuilding of Osgiliath. At 24, he left home for the work available in the rebuilding of Annuminas; skilled masons were still in relatively short supply. He currently fends for himself, buying food and sleeping wherever he can find a bed for the night.
